The search for the first leader of Milwaukee Metro Fire Rescue (MMFR) has entered the next stage, as the Milwaukee Metro Joint Fire Commission conducts candidate interviews following the close of applications last month.

Members of the Milwaukee Metro Joint Fire Commission are currently putting top applicants through a thorough, multi-stage interviewing process. The evaluation is designed to assess each candidate’s executive leadership, emergency management track record, strategic vision, and capacity to unite personnel and operations into a cohesive organizational culture.

Commissioners will hold multiple panels and assessment exercises before selecting finalists for final deliberations and a public appointment.

In Wisconsin, oversight of fire and police personnel decisions is strictly governed by state statute. Under Wisconsin law, independent police and fire commissions hold exclusive authority over key employment decisions, including the hiring, firing, and discipline of fire department personnel.
